Plotagon Studio technical overview
Plotagon Studio is a downloadable application for Windows and Mac that gives you the power of 3D animated video. Using our unique point-and-click Character Creator and our drag-and-drop Plot Creator, you can produce customized 3D animated characters and avatars, write your own video scripts, and export them as MP4 movies.
You can download all the characters, clothing and scenes from the Plotagon servers and then use them to create characters and videos even if your computer is offline.
Why do we do this?
Plotagon utilizes the latest 3D gaming technology, which performs much faster and more reliably when running on a local machine rather than when transferring 3D video across the Internet. Additionally, keeping this content on your local hard drive means that your scripts and characters are safe and secure behind your own firewall rather than on a third party’s cloud servers.
Here are the minimum system requirements to install the Plotagon Studio application.
1 GB free hard drive space
Intel Core i5-3230M equivalent or greater
1024×768 screen resolution
Win 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64bit)
Notebook graphics card with at least 512MB memory (GeForce GT 520Mx equivalent or better)
Mac OS X 10.9 or newer
Intel Core 1.6 GHz or better
At least 4 GB memory
At least 2.5 GB free hard drive space
ATI Radeon HD 3870 or higher / Nvidia 8800 GT or higher / Intel HD 4000 Integrated Graphics with at least 512 MB video memory
How much space will you need on your hard drive?
To download the application, all the available content (characters, clothing and scenes) and two bonus voices requires approximately 2 GB of hard drive space.
Each character that you create will yield a file of roughly 2.5 MB.
A 2 to 3 minute script that has no voice recordings or imported images will only take about 200 KB of space.
If you record or import human voice dialogue, then each line of dialogue (which Plotagon stores as a WAV audio file) should take between 100 and 500 KB of space, depending largely on the length of the recording.
If you purchase additional digital voices, these also require hard drive space. Depending on the language and the sophistication of the digital voice, these can take anywhere from 50 to 400 MB for each voice.
The size of the videos that you export will depend on how long the script is and the video resolution. For example, if you export your script at 1080p resolution, it will yield an MP4 file that is approximately 50 MB per minute of rendered video.
